Dragon's Blood Rainbow 1

The Dragon's Blood Tree is perhaps the most iconic of Socotra's many endemic species, an extraordinary tree that can live for 600 years. The tree is easily recognizable, with branches that fork outward and give it a mushroom-like appearance. It grows in the mountainous areas on the island, and produces a bright red sap, hence its name. For two nights, we camped among these amazing trees. On the second of these magical nights, I walked away from the lights of our campsite around 3AM in search of a singular tree to illuminate under the stars. After some experimentation, I captured the Milky Way under this massive tree as dawn creeped in. The colors remind me of a rainbow... something I pondered as I drifted off for a nap under the tree as the sun began to rise.
